On to Berlin: Battle of the Bulgeby Andrew Curry
Battle of the Bulge![]() Almost 20,000 Americans died in the Battle of the Bulge, four times as many as died on D-Day and more than in any other battle of the war.
Hitler bet everything he had on the attack in the Ardennes, and lost. The German army had used up all its reserves and the last of its air force. And Hitler's take on the U.S. taste for the war turned out to be dead wrong. Almost 20,000 Americans died in the Battle of the Bulge, four times as many as died on D-Day and more than in any other battle of the war. Sixty-thousand more were wounded. But on the front lines and the home front alike, support for the war remained strong. Within six months, Allied troops were in Berlin.
