Be your own weapon master with this how-to!
Office Supplies Trebuchet
Bored at work? Build your own 3" trebuchet out of paperclips
What You'll Need
The materials for the Office Supplies Trebuchet.
Straighten the Paperclips
Use the pliers to straighten out all eight paperclips.
Build the Supports
Take one of the straightened paperclips and make a circle, or eyelet, on one end.
Make the Axle
Shape the axle next.
Make the Arm
Take another of the straightened paperclips and make an eyelet at one end. Then add a loop.
Make the Trigger
Make a loop in the middle of another straightened paperclip.
Assembling the Parts
Take the axle and insert it through the inside loop in the arm so that it sits in the flat-bottom V.
Make the Base
Make a 3'' line down the center of your cardboard.
Assembling the Base
Poke the bent leg ends of the supports into the cardboard.
Mount the Axle
Poke the hooked ends of the axle through the eyelets in the supports.
Re-enforce the Base
Your trebuchet won't win any beauty contests, but the tape will help make it nice and sturdy.
Insert the Trigger
Poke the end of the trigger through the cardboard where the center-line intersects the support-line.
Make the Ballast
Make a little hook using the last paperclip and tape to the battery, or batteries.
Attach the Ballast
Thread the ballast's hook through the eyelet on the end of the swinging arm.
Make Some Ammo
Make some ammunition for your trebuchet.
Ready. Aim. Fire.
Aim and fire by pulling the U-shape on the trigger towards you.
Tips and Tricks
You can change the way the ammo flies by adjusting the length of the string.
